At the end of the 1800s a musical form was created in the deep American South called the blues. The blues is the foundation of jazz, which erupted into and defined the American music scene in the early 1900s.

Marva Josie has appeared in concert with such greats as DIZZY GILLESPIE, DAVE BRUBECK, BENNY CARTER, GERALD WIGGINS, BUDD JOHNSON, HEYWOOD HENRY, ILLINOISE JACQUET, PAUL DESMOND, EDDIE BAREFIELD, HERBIE HANCOCK, and GEORGE DIVIVIER.

 Marva was musically inspired by such greats as ROBERTA PETERS, MARIAN ANDERSON, MAHALIA JACKSON, ARETHA FRANKLIN, LEONTYNE PRICE, MARIA CALLAS, RAY CHARLES, JOHNNY MATHIS, CHARLIE RICH, ROSEMARY CLOONEY, JUDY GARLAND among many others.

After a very successful engagement in a featured role in GEORGE GERSHWIN’S “Porgy and Bess” at the New York City Center, She auditioned for the great Earl “Fatha” Hines Orchestra. Much of her Jazz influence developed during her either years of travels with the Hines Orchestra throughout the world to places like Canada, Brazil, Cuba, Russia, Yogoslavia, Spain, Romania, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Belgium, Italy, England, Denmark, Sweden, France, Germany, Australia, Japan, Thailand, Singapore, and of course all over the United States as well as many other countries. She stepped out as a solo performer whenever the band was on hiatus.

She was guest soloist with The Boston Pops Symphony Orchestra under the baton of the late Arthur Fiedler and guest soloist with The Battle Creek Michigan Symphony Orchestra as well as the 200 voice choir at the Chicago Church of Deliverance under the direction of Reverend Ralph Goodpastor.
